Project:

E! News

Role: Design.

For this E! News rebrand, I strategically employed a classical grid system as the foundation, providing the necessary structure and credibility expected of a news platform. However, recognizing E! News' unique position at the intersection of journalism and entertainment, I introduced contemporary elements that reflect the celebrity-focused content.

The color palette features vibrant teals and reds with subtle gradients that inject energy and modern flair while maintaining visual sophistication. This balance was crucial, the design needed to feel current and engaging without sacrificing the authority essential to news programming.

What makes this system particularly dynamic is the strategic 'reveal' mechanism built into the grid. Rather than showing all content simultaneously, the design playfully unveils videos, images and text elements in unexpected ways, creating moments of surprise that keep viewers engaged and curious about what might appear next. This interactive quality mirrors the entertainment value of celebrity content itself.

The intentional cropping of typography serves as another deliberate departure from traditional news aesthetics. By breaking conventional typographic rules, the design signals to viewers that this isn't standard news programming, it's infused with the same vibrant personality as the celebrities it covers.

I approached this project by carefully balancing opposing forces: structured yet playful, informative yet entertaining, classic yet contemporary. The resulting system provides both the reliability needed for news content and the dynamic energy appropriate for celebrity culture.
